Limited Production: The Apollo spacecraft consisted of three components designed to achieve the goal of landing astronauts on the Moon and returning them safely to Earth by the late 1960s. The spacecraft consisted of the combined Command and Service Module and the Lunar Module. The design was based on a lunar orbit rendezvous approach, with two combined spacecraft being sent to the Moon and entering lunar orbit. The Lunar Module separated and landed, while the Command and Service Modules remained in orbit. After lunar exploration, the two vehicles were reunited and docked in orbit, with the Command and Service Module returning the crew to Earth. The Command Module was the only component to return to Earth with the crew.
